MeditationPi
Overview
Every meditation app I tried lived on my phone, the same device with notifications, messages, and every other distraction waiting one swipe away. Sitting down to meditate meant first navigating past all of that. And even during the session, knowing the phone was right there made it hard to fully disconnect.
So I built a dedicated device for it. MeditationPi is a small, purpose-built meditation device that does nothing else. You pick a session type, choose a duration, put on your headphones, and that's it. No notifications, no internet access. Just a quiet e-ink display and a guided session. I chose e-ink specifically because it's less distracting than a regular screen.
The hardware is a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with a Waveshare e-ink touchscreen and a battery pack, small enough to bring in your pocket. I designed and 3D printed a case to hold everything together. I wrote the interface in Python, keeping the UI minimal by design: dark background, bold type, two choices at a time. The constraint of a 2.13" e-ink screen turned out to be a feature.
